Our Fold
Mholach Carlin Highlands is dedicated to the breeding and sale of exceptional registered Highland Cattle that exemplify true-to-type characteristics. We prioritise pedigree, temperament, and structure, ensuring our cattle reflect the breed's rich heritage and the AHCS Breed Standard.
Our focus extends to maternal traits, recognising the vital role that nurturing and maternal instincts play in the health and productivity of our livestock.
By carefully selecting animals that demonstrate strong mothering abilities, we aim to produce cattle that not only thrive but also contribute positively to future generations.
Our breeding fold is registered with the Australian Highland Cattle Society, boasting pedigrees that trace back to the original Highland Cattle Herdbook of Scotland.
We proudly incorporate exceptional local and imported genetics, including a selection of show champions.

Sires
The process of selecting a bull to put over our breeding females is extensive, after all they make up 50% of the genetics of our progeny. Bulls we lease or purchase are carefully selected to ensure they are proven, structurally sound and have ideal temperaments, possessing the characteristics we want our progeny to have.
Bulls bred we retained intact only where they show exceptional bull characteristics promise, and after successfully completing a bull assessment at 2 years of age, so we can be sure only the best cover breeding females. Those that don’t meet our strict criteria are steered.
Lord Stewart of Mholach Carlin
Lord Stewart is a quiet 2-yo black bull calf, with the sweetest temerament and a wonderful structure. Just like his namesake, the AHCS’s late Patron Bronwyn Stewart, he exudes style and personality.
Lord Stewart is hands down one of the best young bulls we have seen in the breed and we intend soon to put our view to the test in the show ring from mid 2025
Lord Stewart has been running with a few of our breeders and we look forward to seeing the first of his progeny in Spring 2025.
Seamus of Yatarna
Seamus is an exceptional 6-yo red bull, proven with over 30 progeny. We selected Seamus as our future herd sire following an extensive search over several years, purchasing him in late 2024.
With respected Australian and UK folds through his pedigree, a real prescence in the paddock and exemplifying all the majesty and strength a Highland bull should have, we are priviledged to have Seamus join Mholach Carlin fold.
Seamus is currently running with most of our breeders and we look forward to his first progeny here in Spring 2025.
